Carmen is a Cinematographer from Barcelona based between London, Barcelona, Madrid, and Paris. Her interest in visual storytelling started with photography. When Carmen was a kid, she started grabbing her dad’s camera during family holidays. The process felt so magical to her that she soon started to explore this medium, capturing her surroundings and the beauty of real spaces and real people.

At the age of 17, she moved to London to study a Foundation in film at LCC (UAL), where she discovered the art of Cinematography. After graduating with a BA in Film and TV, she started working as a camera assistant and lighting technician on film sets. As Carmen was gaining experience on set, she kept shooting personal projects. Years later, she got signed by Wizzo & Co. Today, Carmen mainly works across commercials, narrative, and music videos.

Coming from a documentary style in photography, I find that my work as a cinematographer is always trying to stylize and enhance the beauty of reality. My lighting is inspired by what would naturally be there, trying to create an atmospheric world in relation to the stories being told. The way I develop a visual style for every project has the story and the characters at the core of the creative process.

My interest in filmmaking lies in the ability this medium has to broaden our understanding of the world. Endless stories need to be told, and there are endless creative ways of telling them by captivating the audience with moving images to inspire, learn, and make someone feel.
