Motoki loves the idea of the reconstruction, as it creates a new potential for an image. It is a very stimulating process since he gets to be an actor, pretending to be a photojournalist or scientist or whatever he likes to be in that instance. ‘Like the Japanese Butoh dance, I love to raise the question with images: are our appearances what we are supposed to look like? Is the body a vessel to represent more than a human being?’
‘It’s also funny to bring up the post-production side of my work since I am a professional retoucher. I deal with publications all the time, and I analyze what effect a specific technique has on an audience.’

‘The representation of the body is a big question that I love to treat from many different points. I love to work with other creatives since I do not want to have a single perspective on the subject. Collaborations allow us to pursue the research further, and it always generates something that we can not accomplish by ourselves.’
