I think photography was an important element throughout my whole life, but I never saw it as something that was part of me. Maybe because it was too normal — it didn’t feel like something I could grab and build something with it. So it took a really long time before I knew what I wanted to do with my life. Then, at some point, I got an opportunity to work with someone who believed in me. From that moment, I decided to trust my gut and take it seriously. Of course, there are ups and downs, but I am working hard to grow and also have some fun.
My approach is very spontaneous — I am trying to search for a moment when people let go. It can be very abstract and intuitive as well. Every time I am working on a personal project, this comes to my mind. I also think it's important to have a good connection with your subjects. I’m taking pictures of a person — someone with feelings and thoughts. I really find it important to make them feel at ease. There is so much misbehavior in this industry, and that’s really something I want to change. Creating an environment where the person can feel relaxed and just have fun is something I aim for.
I feel most happy when I feel free — this happens when I forget about time and dance, explore the city at night, or kiss in the rain, something that makes your stomach flip and gives you a wet eye every now and then. A sense of freedom, vulnerability, and playfulness are important to me. I want to create something that makes my stomach flip — something raw and expressive.
