Paula Burbat is a half German half Spanish photographer. She was born and raised in Granada, where she studied psychology. After finishing her degree, she started to discover her passion for photography and decided to enroll in the Master's degree in Fashion Photography at EFTI. In her images, she likes to explore beauty through sadness, nostalgia, fear, and loneliness. She is working as a freelance photographer.

In my images, I use the same colour palette, usually with slightly more artificial light, which helps me communicate the energy of my work. I explore photography through digital or film, depending on the project.
Portraits are a very repeated element in my work. It started a bit unconsciously. I’m very interested in close-up portraits. The looks and expressions that you get through them are a frozen reality of a person's soul in that very specific moment. I find it very fulfilling and beautiful.
Exploring sadness, loneliness, or feeling trapped is something that happens to us from time to time and now more than ever. Seeing the beauty in these emotions that represent a not-so-beautiful part of life helps me understand them, accept them, and most importantly, live them. Psychology and photography may have ended up blended and provided me the possibility to talk about these subjects and my emotions through images.
