Photographer and Director Duo Berlin ⎯ Rio De Janeiro

Mährlein & von Perfall are a Berlin-based photographer and director duo whose work sits at the intersection of art and commercial photography, encompassing fashion, portraiture, and documentary imagery. Luma's adolescence in Rio de Janeiro and her studies at the city's film school have shaped her unique visual understanding and given her a warm, particular gaze on her subjects. Julian's view is grounded in his closeness to youth culture and a candid approach to portraiture, informed by his years spent in London. He holds a BA in Photography from London's College of Communication and an MA in Art & Politics from Goldsmiths’ College. The duo's work blends subtle visual concepts and an intimate cultural understanding, moving fluidly between themes and genres.

We share a vision fuelled by daylight and spontaneous instances and love the subtle and intimate portrayal of contemporary characters through still and moving images. We also believe in images and their strong impact on society and try to use our mediums accordingly, whether in personal projects or a commercial / fashion context. The fact that representation plays a huge role in our and everyone's perception of the world is a recurring theme when looking for new subjects to work on.

We try to create a balance between personal and commercial projects, regularly switching back and forth between the involvement in personal projects and the joyful creation of spontaneous, unscripted situations for commercial briefs. The ability to stay true to ourselves in both contexts is something we absolutely strive for. Our dream is to create a space, both physically and mentally, where we, and our friends, can work creatively in an intuitive and unrestricted way.
