Diego Martinez Chacon is a Mexican artist working across photography, film, painting, and publishing. His work in the last four years has focused on revaluing and connecting to collective notions of the human image through explorative portraits of the body, form, movement, and color. Previously based in London and New York, he currently lives and works in Barcelona.

My photographs are always reflections of my state of being. In lighter moments, I find expressions of freedom, youth, and optimism; in deeper moments, I gravitate toward raw, bare emotions. Every photograph is a small world my imagination inhabits — I like to keep everything as simple and purist as possible, often seeking a chic-raw tonality.

I want to treat film like painting — anti-schematic, with capacities beyond narrative or traditional framework, more so as manifestations of raw action and artistic meditation in moving images. I’d also like to bring forward the ‘art book’ in a new way, as an object of art in itself and a manifesto for the image maker.
