Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, Jara García Azor creates work that explores womanhood, youth, community, collective identity, and tradition. She works in a casting-based approach that speaks to storytelling, authenticity, and empowerment. With street-casted talents, she creates collaborative images that speak to both her subject and her, making the photographic process a ritual and an intimate space.

While having a formal and fashion-like preoccupation, my images show rawness, honesty, and a research-based creative process. I draw inspiration from my inner circle and the photographic tradition of my own country to lens my subjects from a female, young, and non-compliant angle.

I'm interested in creating images that challenge traditional notions of beauty and the dominant male gaze through self-representation and agency. The work that I do is for my friends and my teenage self. I aim to make images that would've been encouraging for 14-year-old Jara.
